Patti
came to our sanctuary in June of 1996 from Marine World Africa USA in Vallejo, California.
She was born on September 11, 1982 at Marine World. Patti was raised by humans from the
day she was born and lived with other chimpanzees.
Patti performed for Marine World for 14 years before she became too
unpredictable to have
around the public. Because of Patti's exceptional personality, she performed longer than
most chimpanzees.
We believe that Patti is very happy at our sanctuary because we
provide an environment that is very natural to her: humans, books,
television, paints, makeup and all other kinds of young human
enrichment. Moreover, Patti lives with a chimp family that has, to
some extent, similar backgrounds.
Patti weighs 150 pounds and is expected to live to fifty or older.
Patti is the best at communicating to us what she wants and how she
feels. She mainly likes to sign to us that she wants food.
Although it is difficult to know what food she likes the most since she
loves all food, apples and lettuce are among her favorites. Patti
knows numerous signs such as, "more", "hungry", "flower", "please" and
"drink".
We all adore "Princess Patti" and in future updates we will be
sharing special stories of Patti. Please click
